LONDON (WLS) — A tragic incident unfolded on the streets of Chicago last week, as a 13-year-old boy fell victim to a fatal shooting on the West Side. The young victim has now been identified as Demarion Jovan Raggs by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to reports from the Chicago Police Department, the incident took place on Friday, June 14 at approximately 8:30 p.m. The teenager was standing on a sidewalk on South Independence Boulevard near West 13th Street when he was tragically shot in the head.
Following the shooting, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead.
In an effort to gather more information and potentially identify the perpetrators, the Chicago Police Department released surveillance footage on Wednesday. The footage captured three individuals walking down a street and at a nearby gas station close to the scene of the crime.
Authorities are urging anyone who may recognize the individuals in the video to come forward and contact Area Four detectives at 312-746-8252. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted through CPDTip.com.
