Authorities in Houston, Texas are currently investigating a devastating crash that resulted in the death of a 3-year-old girl on Tuesday evening. The incident took place at 8500 Cowart Street at approximately 8:35 p.m.
The young victim has been identified as Reginae Richardson. According to the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer J. Johnson, the fatal collision involved a white Kia Soul. The driver of the vehicle was travelling southbound on Silverdale Street when she lost control, veering off the road and colliding with a wooden utility pole on the northbound side of the sidewalk at Cowart Street.
The impact caused the Kia Soul to overturn and come to rest on its passenger side. Tragically, Reginae was ejected from the front passenger window during the crash. The driver and another female passenger, aged 8, managed to escape through the driver’s side window.
All three individuals involved in the accident were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, Reginae succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver and the other passenger were treated for their injuries and subsequently discharged.
Police officers at the scene did not detect any signs of alcohol or drug impairment in the driver. However, it was noted that there were no child seats present in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The authorities have confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no charges have been filed as the investigation into the cause of the accident continues.
