MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A 72-year-old woman found herself in hot water after attempting to deposit a fraudulent check into her bank account and then trying to withdraw the funds, as reported by the Mobile Police Department.

Incident Details

Authorities responded to a call at a bank located in the 6000 block of Airport Boulevard on June 18 regarding the use of a fake check.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the suspect, identified as Rebecca Elizabeth Hightower, aged 72, had made an attempt to deposit the fraudulent check into her account on June 3. The bank staff quickly identified the check as fake, flagged the account, and subsequently closed it. Undeterred, Hightower then made an effort to withdraw the funds from the account on June 18.

Arrest and Charges

Following the discovery of her actions, Hightower was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted theft of property.
