Pennsylvania State Police and the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office are seeking assistance in solving a long-standing homicide case from the 1990s. The case revolves around the discovery of human remains along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Clay Township on Jan. 21, 1992, which were identified as belonging to Derek Mason, a resident of Philadelphia.
Derek Mason, known in his neighborhood as “Hawkeye” and “Hawk,” was last seen alive in October of 1991. The remains were found in a wooded area along the PA Turnpike and remained unidentified until December 2023, when forensic genetic genealogy techniques were used to positively identify them as belonging to Mason, who was determined to be a victim of homicide.
