CHICAGO (WLS) — A tragic incident unfolded in the South Shore neighbourhood of Chicago, resulting in the death of a young boy who was rescued from an apartment complex. The Cook County Medical examiner confirmed the devastating news.

Fatal Fire in South Shore Apartment Complex

The fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday at a three-flat apartment building located at 78th and Phillips, as reported by the Chicago police. Tragically, a 24-year-old man lost his life in the blaze, while four individuals, including the young boy, were rescued.

The boy, identified as 7-year-old Adrian Matias Peña, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment at the hospital, according to the medical examiner. Additionally, a 2-year-old boy was also rescued from the fire, although no update on his condition was provided.

Emergency services transported a 24-year-old woman to the University of Chicago hospital in stable condition, while a 27-year-old man was taken to Trinity Hospital for a non-fire related injury, as confirmed by the authorities.

The devastating incident resulted in at least 23 individuals being displaced by the fire, highlighting the impact of such tragedies on communities.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking event.
