A devastating incident occurred near Pittsburgh as a 63-year-old bicyclist, identified as Robert Anderson, was tragically electrocuted after encountering downed power lines on a trail in North Park on Tuesday evening.

The grim discovery was made by a jogger just before 8:30 p.m., prompting a response from Allegheny Police. However, due to the hazardous nature of the situation, first responders were unable to reach Anderson until 10:30 p.m. when Duquesne Light took necessary measures to cut power to the lines.

Anderson, a dedicated health and physical education teacher at Central Catholic High School, was pronounced dead at the scene, sending shockwaves through the community. The school expressed profound sorrow over the loss, highlighting Anderson’s commitment to his students over the years.

Speaking on behalf of Duquesne Light, spokeswoman Hollie Geitner extended condolences to Anderson’s family and assured that the utility company was cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.

Authorities had been alerted to the downed power lines earlier on Tuesday, prompting the closure of the trail and the placement of caution tape in the area. Nonetheless, this precaution was not enough to prevent the fatal accident that befell Anderson later in the evening.

This heartbreaking event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining safety protocols in public spaces and the need for swift action in response to potential hazards.
