GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — A Gilbert police report released on Wednesday has shed light on a disturbing ambush attack on a teenage boy, sparking a call for the ban of brass knuckles.

According to the documents, the victim, identified as Connor Jarnagan, was waiting with a friend in the parking lot of In-N-Out Burger near Williams Field Road and Santan Village Parkway on Dec. 30, 2022. It was there that the leader of a group of 10-12 teenagers approached them and commented on the nice red Mustang owned by Jarnagan.

The suspect then demanded $20 from Jarnagan, insinuating his wealth based on his car. When Jarnagan refused, a confrontation ensued, leading to a physical altercation.

During the scuffle, Jarnagan was struck in the back of the head with brass knuckles, causing injury. In an attempt to defuse the situation, Jarnagan or his friend handed over $20 to the assailant.

Following the attack, Jarnagan and his friend drove to another parking lot where they called 911 for assistance. Jarnagan required staples for his head wound, while the group of teenagers dispersed before the arrival of law enforcement.

The police report revealed disturbing Snapchat messages exchanged in a group chat shortly after the incident.

One message read, “Didn’t even fight back… I just beat his ass after he wouldn’t let me steal his car… Got $20 tho,” indicating a lack of remorse from the suspect. Another message expressed a desire to cause chaos, stating, “Only thing I wanna see is the world burn lmao I’m here to burn this world to (expletive) (racial slur).” Additional messages suggested a violent intent, with references to causing harm to others.

In response to the incident, Jarnagan’s mother took to social media, sharing details of the attack and seeking assistance in identifying the suspects.

Subsequent discussions in the Snapchat group hinted at further violence, with individuals contemplating extreme actions and discussing evading law enforcement.

Following investigations, two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested in connection with the case.

In the aftermath of the attack, Jarnagan has become an advocate for the prohibition of brass knuckles. While a statewide ban proposal failed to gain traction in the Legislature, local jurisdictions such as Chandler and Gilbert have implemented ordinances outlawing the weapon.
