A Vancouver resident, Shawn Short, aged 56, was apprehended on Friday following a series of armed robberies dating back to April, as reported by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Short has been charged with first-degree robbery in connection with a robbery that took place on Friday, as well as four additional first-degree robbery and second-degree assault charges stemming from incidents in April and May at various establishments including Starbucks, Target, and Walgreens stores.
The first incident occurred on April 8 at a Starbucks located inside Safeway at 13023 N.E. Highway 99. An unidentified man entered the store, brandishing a large knife at employees and demanding money. The employees complied, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Described as a white male with blue eyes and wearing a black surgical-style mask, the suspect matched the description in subsequent incidents.
The following day, on April 9, a similar robbery occurred at the Target store at 16200 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., investigated by the Vancouver Police Department.
On April 11, another robbery took place at the same Starbucks location, with the suspect displaying a knife at the register. An employee attempted to intervene, but was physically assaulted by the suspect, sustaining injuries in the process. Video surveillance footage captured the suspect leaving the scene on foot, and later getting into a white 2003-2005 Honda Pilot.
Subsequent incidents on April 11 at Walgreens on Northeast 162nd Ave. and a repeat robbery at the same Walgreens on May 24 further implicated the same suspect, leading to a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Vancouver Police Department.
On Friday, Vancouver Police officers responded to multiple armed robbery reports and, with the assistance of a sheriff’s office detective, successfully apprehended a suspect matching the description leaving the scene in a white Honda Pilot. The suspect was identified as Shawn Short, and the vehicle was seized for further investigation.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the case to gather more evidence and information related to the string of armed robberies.
