A Beaver Dam resident found himself in trouble with the law on Monday when Columbia County authorities arrested him for his fourth Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) offense. The incident took place in the town of Fountain Prairie, where sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had collided with a tree. Upon arrival, they discovered the driver, identified as Gary Hicks, slumped over the steering wheel.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that Hicks was under the influence of illicit drugs at the time of the crash. In a proactive move, K9 Rico was brought in and indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Subsequent searches uncovered fentanyl, kratom, and drug paraphernalia.
Following the discovery of the illegal substances, the 53-year-old Hicks was arrested and taken into custody. He was then transported to the Columbia County Jail to face charges related to his actions. In addition to the felony OWI charge, Hicks is also facing charges for possession of narcotics. Furthermore, he has been charged with misdemeanours for carrying a concealed weapon and being armed while intoxicated.
