MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man has been taken into custody after allegedly endangering a resident with his reckless driving in Madera on Tuesday, as reported by the Madera Police Department.

In the early afternoon, law enforcement received a call about a reckless driver who had come close to colliding with a member of the public at the intersection of I Street and Yosemite Avenue. The concerned individual was able to provide the vehicle’s license plate number, enabling the police to quickly identify the registered owner’s address.

Following a search of the area, officers located and approached the suspect, who was later identified as Rafael Cortez-Reyes at his residence. Cortez-Reyes exhibited signs of intoxication, prompting the authorities to initiate a DUI investigation.

Upon further examination, it was determined that Cortez-Reyes had been operating his vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration that was nearly three times above the legal limit. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and booked at Madera County Jail. Fortunately, no traffic accidents occurred as a result of this incident.
