Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Following the tragic Pune Porsche car accident that occurred a month ago, another high-profile hit-and-run case has shaken Chennai. The incident involves the daughter of a Rajya Sabha MP, who reportedly ran her BMW over a man sleeping on a pavement in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

According to a report by NDTV, the victim, identified as Surya, a 24-year-old painter, succumbed to his injuries. The accused, Madhuri, daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, has been granted bail in connection with the incident.

The unfortunate event took place on Monday night when Madhuri, accompanied by a female friend, was driving her BMW in the Besant Nagar area of Chennai. It is alleged that she ran over the man who was sleeping in an intoxicated state on the pavement.

Madhuri reportedly fled the scene of the accident, while her friend engaged in a confrontation with onlookers. Eventually, both individuals left the area, leaving Surya to be taken to a nearby hospital by concerned citizens. Tragically, Surya succumbed to his injuries.

With only eight months into his marriage, Surya’s relatives and neighbours gathered at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station to demand justice, as per reports by NDTV.

Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the police discovered that the car involved in the incident was registered in Puducherry and linked to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group. Madhuri was subsequently arrested but later released on bail.

Background of Beeda Masthan Rao

Rao, who was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022, previously served as an MLA. The BMR Group, associated with him, is a prominent entity in the seafood industry.

Comparison with Pune Porsche Case

In contrast, the Pune Porsche case, which occurred on May 19, resulted in the death of two IT professionals in Kalyani Nagar. The tragic incident involved a speeding Porsche car allegedly driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol.

The case drew national attention when a member of the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the accused under lenient conditions, including writing a 300-word essay on road safety.

A five-member committee submitted a detailed report to the Women and Child Development department commissioner, highlighting significant lapses in the bail order. The department issued show cause notices to two JJB members appointed by them in connection with the case.

The police had requested that the accused in the Pune case be tried as an adult, given his age of 17 years and eight months. However, the Juvenile Justice Board took a different stance, marking the plea as “seen and filed.”
