A shocking crime has rocked the quiet town of Hudson, Florida, as a 25-year-old man, Rory John Graeme Atwood, stands accused of the brutal murder of a young couple and their two children. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has charged Atwood with at least one count of first-degree murder following the discovery of the victims’ remains.

Search for Missing Family

The tragic events unfolded when sheriff’s deputies began searching for the missing family after they were last seen near Nottingham Trail in Hudson late in the evening on 12 June. The couple, identified as Rain Mancini, 26, and Phillip Zilliot II, 25, along with their children Karma Zilliot, six, and Phillip Zilliot III, five, had seemingly vanished without a trace.

Arrest and Shocking Revelation

Atwood’s arrest on 15 June came after his sister-in-law reported to law enforcement that he had called her husband, seeking help in “burning trash.” During the call, her husband witnessed a disturbing scene through a video call, with visible signs of violence and bloodshed.

Further investigations revealed that the missing family had been living with Atwood on his 10-acre property in Hudson. The altercation that led to the tragic deaths reportedly occurred after Atwood evicted the family for non-payment of rent on 1 June.

Details of the Tragic Incident

According to Atwood’s account to deputies, a confrontation ensued between himself, Zilliot, and Mancini when the family returned to gather their belongings on 12 June. The situation escalated, with Atwood claiming self-defence as Zilliot allegedly attacked him with a knife, leading to fatal consequences.

Atwood confessed to disposing of the bodies by burning them in a fire pit on his property. He also admitted to destroying evidence, including a gun and a bloodstained couch, by tossing them into the fire.

Legal Proceedings and Charges

Atwood, who pleaded not guilty during a court appearance on 17 June, is currently remanded at the Land O’Lakes Jail without bond. The medical examiner’s office is working to positively identify the remains found in the fire pit, with Atwood currently charged with the first-degree murder of a “John Doe.”

This horrific crime has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many questioning the motive and circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of a young family. As the investigation unfolds, the full extent of the events leading to this heinous act is yet to be revealed.
