Christopher Applewhite : Fort Wayne Man Faces Multiple Charges including Rape

A 34-year-old man, Christopher Dyrell Applewhite, is facing a series of serious felony charges, including rape, burglary, strangulation, armed robbery, intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and being a serious violent felon in possession of a handgun. Additionally, he is charged with resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot.

The incident took place on Sunday in the 1000 block of North Coliseum Boulevard in Fort Wayne. According to reports from the Fort Wayne Police, a woman reported a sexual assault around 1 p.m. when a stranger armed with a knife forced his way into her room.

Court documents from Allen Superior Court revealed that the assailant had no prior connection to the victim. He knocked on her door and attacked her in the presence of her two children. The woman attempted to defend herself with a pistol, but the man managed to disarm her and used the weapon to threaten her further.

The woman mentioned to the police that Applewhite appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine during the assault, raising concerns about potential exposure to the drug.

Police officers responded promptly to the scene and located a man matching the victim’s description. However, Applewhite attempted to flee and dropped a loaded pistol in the process. He was apprehended a short distance away, with a knife found in his possession.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries before being transferred to a treatment center to address the assault.

Christopher Dyrell Applewhite, identified as a serious violent felon in court documents, has a prior conviction for auto theft and domestic battery causing bodily harm to a pregnant woman, resulting in a sentence in 2018.
