Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Trial proceedings commenced on Monday for one of the teenage brothers accused of second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Danillo Canales Glenn in the southeast community of Copperfield in September.

The 16-year-old defendant and his 18-year-old brother stand accused in the tragic death of Canales Glenn, who was allegedly bear sprayed and stabbed multiple times at the community basketball court on the evening of Sept. 5.

The 16-year-old defendant cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act’s provisions. His older brother, although not identified to protect his sibling’s privacy, will face a separate trial in due course.

Authorities investigating the case believe that Canales Glenn was innocently playing basketball at the time of the brutal attack and had no prior connection to either of the accused brothers.

The trial, presided over by Justice Eleanor J. Funk, is scheduled to span nine days to ensure a thorough examination of the evidence and witness testimonies.

Canales Glenn, who had recently turned 18 before his untimely death, was mourned by his family, friends, and the tight-knit Copperfield community. Several vigils were held at the basketball court in his memory, reflecting the impact of his loss on those who knew him.

The tragic incident marked Calgary’s 13th homicide of 2023, underscoring the ongoing challenges of addressing violence and ensuring community safety.

Stay tuned for more updates as the trial progresses…
