Man arrested in Alberta for homicide in British Columbia

Alberta Mounties have announced the arrest of Bith Chuol, the second suspect in a 2021 homicide case. Chuol was apprehended in Calgary on June 15, more than a year after charges were first brought against him by the RCMP.
Chuol is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 20 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton. The charges against him include first-degree murder, kidnapping, breaking and entering, and extortion.
Long-Awaited Arrest
After an extensive investigation, Alberta RCMP initially announced charges against Chuol on Feb. 13, 2023, in connection with the September 2021 homicide of 29-year-old Vanessa Silva. Chuol, who has ties to Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Manitoba, had been evading authorities since the charges were laid.
He was charged alongside Cordell Enrique Federico Kennedy, who faces one count of first-degree murder in relation to Silva’s death. The tragic incident unfolded on Sept. 15, 2021, when Strathcona County RCMP and firefighters responded to a vehicle fire near Township Road 530 and Range Road 221. Following the extinguishing of the fire, human remains were discovered in the vehicle, later identified as Silva on Sept. 17, 2021.
Notorious Criminal
In addition to the homicide case, Chuol has gained notoriety as a wanted criminal. He has been featured on Metro Vancouver Crime Stopper’s most-wanted list, with his name appearing as recently as October 2023.
The arrest of Bith Chuol marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the tragic homicide of Vanessa Silva. As the case progresses through the judicial system, authorities are hopeful that justice will be served for the victim and her loved ones.
