Accident – Death – Obituary News :

MESA, Ariz. (AZFamily/Gray News) — A woman has been arrested and is facing a felony charge after police in Arizona reported that she left her 4-year-old daughter in a hot car while she went shopping during extreme heat on Saturday.

According to court documents, two concerned individuals spotted the young girl locked inside the car with the windows rolled up and the engine turned off at approximately 7:45 p.m. at a shopping center near Stapley Drive and Southern Avenue in Mesa. The witnesses immediately contacted the authorities for assistance.

Upon arrival, officers found the mother, identified as Nicole Dawn Yazzie, exiting a store. She unlocked the car and opened the right rear passenger door, revealing the distressed child inside.

The officer noted that the girl was sweating profusely and appeared disoriented, pale, and had apparently urinated on herself. She was dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and long cotton pants, despite the scorching 110-degree weather outside. Police measured the temperature inside the car at a staggering 129 degrees, as per court records.

The child received immediate medical attention and was given water before being placed in an air-conditioned police vehicle for further care.

According to the court documents, Yazzie confessed to intentionally leaving her daughter in the car because she didn’t want to bring her into the store. She also admitted to not starting the car because she was afraid her daughter might drive away.

Yazzie acknowledged that her actions were wrong, as stated in the court papers. She has been charged with one count of child abuse and her bail has been set at $15,000.

Leaving a child unattended in a hot car is not only dangerous but also illegal. Parents and caregivers are reminded to always ensure the safety and well-being of children, especially during extreme weather conditions.
