A tragic incident has rocked the community of Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Council of Delta State, as a man identified as Stanley Ovemureye stands accused of killing his own six-year-old daughter, Abigail.
Reports indicate that the heinous crime took place on June 15 at Uviama New Layout, leaving the community in shock and disbelief. Ovemureye allegedly smashed the young girl’s head against the wall multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressed deep sorrow over the heart-wrenching act. The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect’s brother reported the tragic event to the police.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives swiftly responded and located the lifeless body of Abigail at the scene in Uviama New Layout. The body was subsequently taken to a mortuary for further investigation.
SP Edafe reassured the public that the police are actively pursuing the fleeing suspect, Stanley Ovemureye, and are determined to ensure that justice is served in this case.
Arrest Made in Separate Sexual Abuse Case
In a separate incident, Delta State Police operatives arrested Kokoro Agbuna Sajere, a 50-year-old man, for allegedly sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl in the Amukpe area of Sapele.
The disturbing incident unfolded over the weekend at Oghene Road in Amukpe, where the young victim had been residing with her guardian. Sources revealed that Kokoro lured the girl into his residence during odd hours and threatened her with harm if she disclosed the abuse.
However, after experiencing physical discomfort in her private areas, the brave girl confided in her uncle about the traumatic ordeal she had endured at the hands of Kokoro. Initially denying the allegations, Kokoro later admitted to the crime and was promptly apprehended by law enforcement.
These harrowing events serve as stark reminders of the importance of safeguarding the vulnerable members of society and the critical role that law enforcement plays in ensuring justice for victims of heinous crimes.
