Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Man Found Dead in Drainage Ditch

The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBSCO) has confirmed the identity of the man discovered dead in a drainage ditch by construction workers last week. The body of Enrique Godinez, 61, was found on June 11 in the area of FM 361 at Pine Meadow Lane, located between Rosenberg and Needville.

According to FBSCO, Godinez’s body is believed to have been in the area since May 24. This discovery comes after his family reported him missing to the Rosenberg Police Department on May 28, stating that he had been missing since May 19.

Investigators have determined that Godinez was riding a bike at the time of the incident, as bicycle and motor vehicle debris were found near his body. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision is now considered a person of interest in the case.

A review of FBSCO traffic calls to FM 361 revealed that a call was made to dispatch on May 24 by a Lamar Consolidated Independent School District officer regarding an accident and stalled vehicle in the area. A deputy was dispatched to investigate the incident and spoke with the driver of the stalled vehicle, completing a crash report.

Sheriff Eric Fagan expressed his condolences to the Godinez family and stated, “We are working diligently to piece together what happened at the scene.” An internal investigation into the initial accident investigation conducted by the FBSCO deputy on May 24 is currently underway.
