Jacob Singleton : “Delaware Man Charged for Illegal Home Entry”

NEWARK, D.E. – A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he led officers on a pursuit in Newark on Sunday.

Singleton was taken into custody by Delaware State Police following a dramatic chase that unfolded on Sunday afternoon. The incident began at approximately 2:23 p.m. when a trooper, assisting a disabled motorist on Salem Church Road near East Chestnut Hill Road, witnessed a black Mazda running a red light.

Despite the trooper activating emergency lights to signal the vehicle to stop, the Mazda accelerated and fled the scene, prompting a pursuit. The Mazda was seen driving recklessly through several streets in Newark, leading the trooper to make the decision to halt the chase in the interest of public safety.

Shortly thereafter, other troopers in the area located the Mazda parked in a driveway on Montrose Drive, dangerously close to a residential property. A concerned resident flagged down the officers and informed them that the driver, later identified as Jacob Singleton, had unlawfully entered their home and was hiding in the bathroom.

After a search of the property, Singleton was found in the bathroom and resisted arrest, resulting in injuries to one of the troopers. Despite the altercation, Singleton was eventually taken into custody without further incident.

Following the arrest, Singleton was charged with a range of serious offences, including assault on a law enforcement officer causing injury, reckless endangerment, burglary, resisting arrest, and multiple traffic violations. He was subsequently remanded to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a cash bond of $13,300.
