MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A heartbreaking incident occurred at Camp Dearborn in Milford Township on Monday afternoon, as a teenager tragically drowned in a devastating accident, authorities have confirmed.
The victim has been identified as a 17-year-old young man from Hamtramck, who was enjoying a day out at the park with his family when the tragedy struck.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the unfortunate incident took place at approximately 1 p.m. when the victim’s body went under the water’s surface. Despite the efforts of the emergency response teams, his body was not recovered until nearly two hours later, around 2:50 p.m.
Reports indicate that the teenager drowned in just 6 feet of water, a mere 30 feet from the safety of the shore. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, alongside the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, swiftly responded to the scene and successfully recovered his body from the water.
At this time, the circumstances leading up to the tragic drowning remain unclear, as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
