LONG COUNTY, Ga. — A heartbreaking incident occurred over the weekend in Long County, Georgia, as an 18-year-old lost his life in a drowning accident, reported by WSAV.

According to the Long County Sheriff’s Office, a group of four teenagers was wading near a boat ramp on the Altamaha River around 8 p.m. when tragedy struck.

The area where the teens were was clearly marked as “no swimming,” as reported by WJCL.

The sheriff explained that the riverbank dropped steeply, causing one of the teens to struggle to make it back to the dock.

Tragically, the teen who found himself in distress did not possess the ability to swim. Despite efforts from a friend to rescue him, the situation quickly turned fatal.

It took the Long County Fire Department approximately an hour to recover the young victim’s body from the river.

Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed, and authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning incident.
