Accident – Death – Obituary News :

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A road rage incident in Cape Coral escalated into a chaotic scene last Sunday, as a suspected drunk driver fled from a crash and ended up punching a maintenance worker, according to an arrest report.

Hit-and-Run Chaos Unfolds

The Cape Coral Police Department responded to a hit-and-run scene after receiving reports of a white pick-up truck crashing into another car and fleeing the scene. Shortly after, another call came in reporting the same truck with its front tire blown out, speeding through a residential area.

A witness flagged down police, describing the driver as “acting crazy.”

Aggressive Behaviour and Incoherent Speech

The man behind the wheel, identified as Juan Lago, 38, was located at a Circle K. Witnesses described him as being aggressive, with slurred speech and glossy eyes. Despite evidence to the contrary, Lago denied being involved in any crash. Police also found a pocketknife in his possession.

After interviewing several witnesses, a troubling picture of Lago’s behaviour emerged.

Erratic Behaviour at Liquor Store

According to reports, Lago made two visits to a liquor store on the day of the incident. During his first visit, he purchased a shooter of Fireball. Upon returning to the store in an intoxicated state, Lago made inflammatory remarks about Muslims and claimed to be an ex-Manne who had suffered at the hands of others.

When employees refused to serve him alcohol during his second visit, Lago became enraged, spitting on a worker and attempting to provoke a physical altercation. He then sped off in his truck.

Violent Confrontation

Another witness recounted a frightening encounter with Lago. As they waited for his truck to pass so they could pull out onto the road, Lago made a sudden U-turn, drove towards them aggressively, and attempted to force his way into their vehicle. The situation escalated when the woman’s maintenance worker intervened, only to be threatened and punched by Lago.

Following a field sobriety test, Lago was arrested for DUI and taken to a nearby hospital. During this process, he also assaulted an officer, headbutting them on the chin.

Legal Consequences

Lago now faces a litany of charges, including three counts of DUI, DUI property damage, hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery on a law enforcement officer. He has been remanded to the Lee County Jail as legal proceedings unfold.
