Accident – Death – Obituary News : A suspect has been apprehended in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Joliet, Illinois, earlier this month, according to authorities. The Joliet Police Department responded to a residence on Krakar Avenue on the night of June 1, where they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds in the front living room.
Tragically, a 23-year-old man identified as Fernando Contreras was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining a gunshot wound to his head. Another victim, a 27-year-old man, suffered a non-life-threatening graze wound to his head and was treated and released from Silver Cross Hospital. Additionally, a 20-year-old man sustained four gunshot wounds to his body and was transported to the same hospital in stable condition.
Investigators believe that the gunfire originated from outside the residence, striking all three victims in the front living room. Over 25 spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, indicating a significant level of violence. Following thorough investigative efforts, authorities executed a search warrant at the residence of 22-year-old John Hernandez on Campbell Street on the morning of June 15.
Hernandez was taken into custody and subsequently transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility after processing at the Joliet Police Department. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the shooting, as confirmed by Joliet police on Sunday.
Despite the arrest, police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
