According to a statement released by the sheriff’s office on Sunday morning, the victim has been identified as 25-year-old Pradip Kumar Bhujel, a resident of Charlotte. The search for Bhujel commenced after authorities received a distress call reporting a possible drowning at Jordan Lake near the address of 6771 NC 751. Emergency responders arrived on the scene at approximately 11:43 p.m. and initiated search efforts.
Initial reports indicate that Bhujel was participating in a fishing expedition with friends when he was last seen wading into the water before suddenly disappearing from view. The focus of the search operation was concentrated on the area where Bhujel was last observed, which ultimately led to the discovery of his lifeless body. Tragically, Bhujel was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Mike Roberson expressed his condolences, stating, “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Pradip Kumar Bhujel. Our team is currently conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”
In addition to the sheriff’s deputies, various first responders from Chatham County Emergency Management, North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, FirstHealth EMS, and the state Medical Examiner’s Office collaborated in the overnight search efforts.
This unfortunate incident marks the second fatal drowning at Jordan Lake this summer, following the tragic death of a 16-year-old from Winston-Salem during Memorial Day weekend. As a precautionary measure, all visitors to Jordan Lake are strongly advised to wear life jackets, confine swimming activities to designated areas, closely supervise children, and remain vigilant of water conditions.
