Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Charsadda town successfully prevented the marriage of a 12-year-old girl to a 72-year-old man, following a tip-off about the illegal arrangement. The groom, identified as Habib Khan, was arrested along with the ‘Nikah Khwan’, the person responsible for solemnizing the marriage. However, the girl’s father, Alam Syed, managed to escape before he could be apprehended.

Reports suggest that the girl’s father had agreed to sell his daughter to the elderly man for a sum of PKR 500,000. The police intervention came just in time, moments before the ‘Nikkah’ ceremony was to take place. The incident has led to the filing of charges against the father, the groom, and the ‘Nikah Khwan’ under the Child Marriage Act.

Despite the existence of laws prohibiting child marriage in Pakistan, such cases continue to occur, prompting law enforcement agencies to take swift action. Similar incidents have been thwarted in other regions of the country, including Rajanpur and Thatta, where young girls were being coerced into marrying much older men.

In a recent case in Rajanpur, a 11-year-old girl was on the brink of marrying a 40-year-old man before authorities intervened. In Thatta, a young girl was forcibly married to a 50-year-old landlord, but fortunately, she was rescued in time by the police.

On a separate occasion in Swat, a 13-year-old girl was married off to a 70-year-old man by her father. The timely intervention of the police led to the arrest of the groom, the father, the ‘Nikkah Khwan’, and the witnesses. The minor girl was taken to a hospital for a medical examination following the incident.

These cases highlight the persistent issue of child marriage in Pakistan, despite legal provisions aimed at protecting minors from such exploitative practices. Law enforcement agencies continue to play a crucial role in preventing such marriages and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable children.
