A high-speed chase involving a Toyota Corolla on Wednesday evening in Franklin County resulted in the arrest of the driver, Quentin Bitner, and a passenger. The pursuit, which reached speeds over 110 mph, came to a dramatic end when state troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle on Buchanan Valley Road.
State police were alerted to the speeding Toyota Corolla on Lincoln Way East in Franklin County. Troopers immediately activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to pull over the vehicle. However, the driver, identified as 29-year-old Quentin Bitner, failed to yield and instead accelerated, prompting a pursuit that extended into Adams County.
During the chase, the Toyota Corolla dangerously weaved through traffic, even using the center turn lane to pass other vehicles. With public safety in mind, troopers decided to employ a precision immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver, to stop the fleeing vehicle. The maneuver successfully caused the Corolla to roll over and come to a halt on its roof.
Both Quentin Bitner and a passenger managed to exit the overturned vehicle and were promptly taken into custody by state police. Despite the high-speed nature of the chase and the subsequent crash, both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Quentin Bitner now faces a litany of charges, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, driving under the influence (DUI), and multiple other traffic violations. The swift and decisive actions of state troopers ultimately brought a dangerous situation to a close, ensuring the safety of all road users in Franklin County.
