A professor at a college in Madhya Pradesh was left in critical condition after being attacked by his former student and a group of friends on campus, the police have reported. The incident took place on Friday afternoon at Government Jaywanti Haksar (JH) College.
The victim, identified as Neeraj Dhakad, an assistant professor at the college, was allegedly assaulted with sticks and chilli powder by the accused, led by Annu Thakur. The attack was so severe that Dhakad had to be transferred to Bhopal for specialized medical treatment.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Following the incident, Betul Superintendent of Police Nischal Jharia stated that an attempted murder case has been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. CCTV footage from the college premises captured the accused entering Dhakad’s room with their faces concealed and armed with sticks.
According to campus sources cited by PTI, no one came to Dhakad’s aid during the assault, and he was only taken to a local hospital after the attackers fled the scene. The police have filed a complaint against Annu Thakur and his accomplices, assuring that they will be arrested promptly.
Victim’s Account
In his complaint, Dhakad detailed the harrowing attack, stating that he was sitting in the Sanskrit department when the group of youngsters approached him. They allegedly threw chilli powder in his eyes and proceeded to strike him with rods, causing severe injuries to his head, wrists, and legs.
Ghanshyam Madaan, president of JH College Janbhagidari Samiti, asserted that the attackers were not affiliated with the college as students. The incident has sparked outrage and concern within the academic community, prompting calls for increased security measures on campus.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the assault, aiming to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of faculty and students at the college.
