Gun Violence Statistics Revealed: Handguns Remain the Weapon of Choice for Criminals

The Bump Stock Controversy

The debate over gun control and the use of bump stocks has been a hot topic for years. In 2017, a gunman used bump stocks to kill 60 people in a horrific mass shooting. This event sparked a nationwide discussion about the legality and regulation of bump stocks, which are devices that enable semi-automatic weapons to fire at a much faster rate.

Handguns: The Real Culprit

However, recent statistics have revealed a shocking truth – handguns are actually the weapon of choice for criminals, not bump stocks. Since the tragic incident in 2017, over 200,000 people have been killed by criminals wielding handguns. The vast majority of these criminals were known to break gun laws and were using illegally obtained guns.

Illegal Gun Use

It is clear that the real issue lies not with bump stocks, but with the illegal use of handguns. Despite strict gun laws and regulations, criminals continue to find ways to obtain firearms illegally and use them to commit violent crimes. This highlights the need for stronger enforcement of existing gun laws and measures to prevent the illegal trafficking of firearms.

Addressing the Root Cause

Instead of focusing solely on banning bump stocks, policymakers should prioritize addressing the root causes of gun violence. This includes investing in mental health resources, addressing socioeconomic disparities, and implementing community-based violence prevention programs. By addressing these underlying issues, we can work towards reducing gun violence and creating safer communities for all.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the recent statistics on gun violence have shed light on the true nature of the problem. While bump stocks have been the subject of much debate, it is clear that handguns are the real weapon of choice for criminals. By addressing the root causes of gun violence and implementing comprehensive solutions, we can work towards creating a safer society for all. Let us continue to push for meaningful change and advocate for policies that prioritize public safety above all else..
