Authorities in Butler County, Ohio, are investigating a tragic two-vehicle head-on collision that resulted in the loss of one life and left two others injured.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on June 8 on US 127 south of Harris Road in Milford Township. The crash involved a Toyota Camry that veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 22-year-old Leodegario Cruz Ortiz from Mexico, and his passenger were airlifted to UC Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, the driver of the other vehicle, 40-year-old Christopher Vanzant from Fountain City, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speeding and alcohol suspected as factors in the crash
Through the course of the investigation, authorities determined that Ortiz was driving at a speed exceeding 80 mph at the time of the collision. Additionally, alcohol is believed to have played a role in the tragic incident.
Legal consequences for the driver
It was revealed that Ortiz did not possess a valid U.S. driver’s license. As a result, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, a first-degree felony.
