An elderly man tragically lost his life in a horrific car fire near an oil palm plantation in Suai, Niah, located approximately 90km from the bustling city of Miri on the evening of Friday, June 14.
The victim has been identified as Chen Kian Seong, aged 63, a resident of Bandar Baru Permyjaya in Miri, Sarawak. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre received a distress call regarding the incident at 11.05pm, prompting a rapid response from the team at the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station.
Upon arrival at the scene, the firefighters were met with a devastating sight – a Proton Wira Aeroback engulfed in flames, with the fire having already been extinguished by the time they reached the location. Tragically, the charred body of the victim was discovered in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
Following a thorough inspection, the firefighters diligently assisted in removing the remains of the deceased from the burnt-out car. The authorities then took custody of the charred body for further investigation and necessary legal procedures. The precise cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the relevant authorities.
