An incident of violence occurred at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino County, where an inmate attempted to stab another inmate and a sheriff’s deputy with a makeshift knife. The inmate, identified as Christopher Lommie Jackson, engaged in the attack on Tuesday at approximately 2:45 p.m., as reported by the Sheriff’s Department.

The 28-year-old inmate was the initial target of the attack, during which Jackson used a metal knife crafted within the confines of the jail. Subsequently, when deputies intervened, Jackson directed his aggression towards a 45-year-old deputy, causing a physical altercation that resulted in the deputy being knocked to the ground.

Video evidence released by the Sheriff’s Department captured the harrowing moment when Jackson lunged at the deputy with the weapon in hand, leading to a struggle that required the intervention of additional deputies to diffuse the situation.

The injured deputy, whose identity remains undisclosed, was admitted to a medical facility for treatment of moderate facial injuries and later discharged. The condition of the other inmate involved in the incident has not been disclosed.

Legal Proceedings and Background

Christopher Lommie Jackson, a 25-year-old resident of San Bernardino, has been in custody since 2019 following his acceptance of a plea deal in a murder case. Court records indicate that Jackson was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. In light of the recent violent episode, Jackson will face charges of attempted murder.
