Joshua Main : “Phoenix Police Shootout with Motorcycle Thief”

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Phoenix police have made public the body-cam footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this month, involving a suspected motorcycle thief. The incident took place on Sunday, June 2, at around 2 p.m.

The Incident

A distress call was received from a woman, reporting a man with a firearm attempting to steal her boyfriend’s motorcycle during a transaction. She indicated that they were in an alley, but the exact location was unknown.

Expressing concern for her child’s safety in the car, the woman pleaded with the dispatcher to send assistance. Upon identifying the location, officers were dispatched to the area of 13th Street and Palm Lane.

Upon arrival, the suspect, armed with a handgun, was swiftly located by the police, seated on the stolen motorcycle.

The Confrontation

As the officers exited their patrol vehicle, the body-cam footage captured the suspect raising his weapon towards them. In response, both officers discharged their firearms, resulting in the suspect falling to the ground.

The Outcome

Following the shooting, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Joshua Main, was transported to a medical facility, where he succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, there were no other casualties reported.

A Glock handgun was recovered in close proximity to where the suspect was shot, along with evidence suggesting that Main had discharged at least one round.

Investigation Ongoing

The officers involved in the incident, with four and six years of service, are stationed at the Mountain View Precinct. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under investigation.
