PHOENIX — A man was shot and killed by Phoenix police officers on June 2 after he pointed a gun at them during a response to reports of a robbery. The incident, which was captured on video, has sparked controversy and raised questions about police response tactics.

Details of the Incident

According to Phoenix police, the confrontation occurred in the area of 13th Street and Palm Lane. Officers were responding to a 911 call from a woman who reported that a man, later identified as 27-year-old Joshua Main, was attempting to steal her boyfriend’s motorcycle at gunpoint.

Upon arrival, officers found Main sitting on the motorcycle with a gun in his hand. When they approached him, Main allegedly pointed the gun at the officers, prompting them to open fire. Main was shot and killed at the scene.

Bodycam Footage

Bodycam footage of the incident was released by the police department. However, the video does not include audio of the shooting or the moments leading up to it due to a 60-second delay in the start of audio recording. The footage has raised questions about the use of deadly force by law enforcement in such situations.
