Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a recent incident in central Wisconsin, a 20-year-old driver crashed his vehicle into Lake Wisconsin, leading to the closure of the Merrimac Ferry. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office shared details of the incident on their Facebook page, stating that the vehicle crashed into the water at the Hwy 113 Ferry Crossing on June 13 around 11 p.m.

Upon receiving the report, authorities discovered that two individuals had managed to exit the vehicle and were swimming towards shore. Deputies arrived at the scene and found the two occupants, with the passenger sustaining injuries and being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, deputies observed signs indicating that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Subsequent tests confirmed that the 20-year-old driver from Sun Prairie was indeed intoxicated, leading to his arrest and detention at the Columbia County Jail.

The vehicle was eventually retrieved from the lake the following day. Despite not making direct contact with the ferry, an inspection was deemed necessary to ensure that no damage had been caused. As a result, the Merrimac Ferry remained closed until the inspection could be completed, with plans to reopen on June 14.

Multiple agencies collaborated with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office to manage the situation and conduct the necessary procedures. Further details regarding the incident were not disclosed at this time.
