An individual from Ashdown has been taken into custody on numerous charges after a pursuit in Sevier County over the previous weekend.
Details of the Incident
On Friday, June 7, a Sevier County Sheriff’s Office deputy was conducting patrol duties on Highway 41 when they initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to maintain its lane. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Michael Scott Kyle Bush of Ashdown, exhibited signs of extreme nervousness during the interaction, and the vehicle was reported to have a strong odor of marijuana.
Upon requesting Bush to exit the vehicle, he allegedly refused to comply and proceeded to flee from the scene in a northerly direction on Highway 41 at a significantly high speed. The deputy reported that Bush overtook several vehicles by driving on the shoulder and crossed double yellow lines while navigating curves at speeds exceeding 95mph.
Subsequently, Bush lost control of the vehicle, veering off the roadway and coming to a stop in an embankment south of Piney Road on Highway 41. He then exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away from the responding deputy, who managed to apprehend Bush by employing a taser.
Discovery of Contraband
A search of Bush’s vehicle led to the uncovering of a glass smoking pipe and a small bag containing suspected methamphetamine. Additionally, two glass jars containing marijuana were found within the vehicle, as detailed in the arrest affidavit.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
As a result of the incident, Bush has been charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, and fleeing. He is presently detained at the Sevier County Jail awaiting his next court appearance.
