Daniel Callihan, 36, was arrested on Thursday, June 15, after authorities accused him of committing “brutal and heinous acts of violence” against Callie Brunett and her young daughter, Erin.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards expressed his condolences to the family of the victims, stating, “Our hearts are with all those affected by this tragic event. The incident began on June 13 when an amber alert was issued for two young children following the discovery of Callie Brunett’s lifeless body in her home in Loranger. Her two children were reported missing, sparking a frantic search by law enforcement authorities.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade revealed that Callihan was eventually located in Jackson, Mississippi, approximately two hours away from Tangipahoa. After a brief pursuit, he was apprehended in a wooded area behind a residence. Tragically, the lifeless body of 4-year-old Erin was discovered in the same vicinity, prompting a harrowing scene for investigators.
Chief Wade described the discovery as “very traumatic” and “very tragic,” emphasizing the heartbreaking loss of an innocent child. He expressed his sorrow at witnessing such a devastating sight, acknowledging the pain felt by all involved.
