Tragedy struck in Mkuru slums, Nairobi, as a 49-year-old woman, Dorcas Matoke, was electrocuted in a horrifying incident. The unfortunate incident occurred when she unknowingly came into contact with a live wire that was lying low in the area.

Local residents recounted how Matoke screamed for help after being hit by the live wire, prompting a neighbour to rush to her aid. In a brave attempt to rescue Matoke, the neighbour also suffered serious burns and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save her, Matoke tragically succumbed to her injuries.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in Naivasha, where a 49-year-old man, Samuel Kariuki Waruga, was electrocuted while pruning a tree branch on his farm. Witnesses reported that Waruga accidentally came into contact with a live power cable, resulting in his untimely death.

Authorities, including KPLC officials, were called to the scene to conduct investigations and ensure proper procedures were followed. Multi-agency teams have been deployed to implement measures to prevent such incidents, including the disconnection of illegal power connections and the trimming of trees near power cables.

As the community mourns the loss of Dorcas Matoke and Samuel Kariuki Waruga, calls for improved safety measures and stricter enforcement of regulations continue to grow louder.
