PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man in Porterville has been arrested for allegedly possessing over £20,000 worth of fireworks that are not considered “Safe and Sane”, according to the Porterville Police Department.
On Thursday afternoon, officers responded to a residence on River Springs Drive to execute a search warrant related to the possession and sale of illegal aerial fireworks.
Upon searching the premises, detectives discovered a large box containing commercial-grade illegal aerial fireworks. The individual responsible for these fireworks was identified as 20-year-old Caleb Magallanes. Additionally, illegal fireworks were found at another location on North Walch Street.
Following the investigation, law enforcement seized a total of 1,254 pounds of illegal aerial fireworks, valued at around £23,000. These fireworks are considered to be dangerous as they have not been approved as “Safe and Sane” by the California State Fire Marshals and lack the necessary seal.
Individuals involved in the sale, possession, or detonation of illegal fireworks may face an administrative fine ranging from £1,000 to £10,000, in addition to potential criminal charges. Homeowners can also be cited for detonating illegal fireworks on their property.
