A Rowan County man, previously facing multiple felony drug charges and felony flee to elude charges, was recently convicted in criminal court of being a habitual felon. The individual, identified as 43-year-old Rodriquez Dwane Mashore, was found guilty in June on three counts of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to sell or deliver, felony flee to elude, misdemeanor driving while impaired, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and the additional charge of being a habitual felon.

Following the conviction, Judge Clifton Smith sentenced Mashore to a period of incarceration ranging from a minimum of 14 years to a maximum of 18.8 years, as per a statement issued by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest of Mashore took place on August 30, 2022, after deputies initiated a traffic stop on his vehicle. Mashore attempted to evade the authorities, prompting deputies to perform a PIT maneuver on the vehicle. During the maneuver, the occupants of the car allegedly disposed of narcotics out of the window. Subsequent searches in the area led to the discovery of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, and fentanyl. Additionally, crack and powder cocaine were found on Mashore himself.

Mashore’s habitual felon status was established based on his prior convictions for felony obtaining property by false pretences, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, and felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance within the past eight years, all within Rowan County, according to records from the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

Under North Carolina laws, individuals who have three prior felony convictions can face habitual felon charges upon committing another felony offence.

The investigation into the case was carried out by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office special investigations unit, with support from the Salisbury Police Department. The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant District Attorney Ashley Smith.
