Accident – Death – Obituary News : Police authorities in Pune have recently obtained access to new CCTV camera footage in the case involving a 17-year-old boy who reportedly crashed a Porsche luxury car into a motorcycle, resulting in the tragic deaths of two young software engineers in the city last month.
The newly acquired CCTV footage, captured in the Yerwada area, depicts an employee of Sassoon General Hospital who has been implicated in a scheme to swap the blood samples of the underage driver, allegedly receiving a bribe, according to reports from news agency PTI. The police have indicated that a middleman by the name of Ashpak Makandar handed over the bribe to hospital employee Atul Ghatkamble.
It has been revealed that a sum of ₹3 lakh was exchanged as a bribe at the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) premises. Ghalkamble, along with the hospital’s suspended forensics department head, Dr Ajay Taware, and former casualty medical officer, Dr Shrihari Halnor, have already been apprehended for purportedly tampering with the minor’s blood samples.
Following the incident that occurred on May 19 in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, where the 17-year-old boy, driving a Porsche, collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the tragic demise of techies Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, the police have taken further steps in the investigation. Surveillance footage suggests that the minor was driving the Porsche at a speed of 160 kmph at the time of the fatal accident.
The teenager, who happens to be the son of renowned builder Vishal Agrawal, had hosted a gathering for his friends to celebrate his Class 12 results on the night of the incident. The group engaged in drinking at various establishments in the city and embarked on a night drive.
In response to the multifaceted incident, the police have initiated three separate cases, including an FIR concerning the accident, a secondary case against a pub allegedly serving alcohol to the underage driver, and charges against the accused’s father for permitting him to operate the vehicle without a valid license.
Moreover, a third case has been filed in relation to the unlawful detention and coercion of the family driver to take responsibility for the fatal accident, leading to the arrest of the accused’s grandfather.
The Juvenile Justice Board has extended the observation home remand of the accused until June 25, emphasizing the significance of continued investigation into the matter. The release of the teen at this critical juncture could potentially impede the progress of the ongoing inquiry, as stated by the authorities.
