Zar Ni Myint : “Arrest made in Holton Ave shooting”

A 20-year-old man was taken into custody on Thursday night in Fort Wayne, after an officer-involved shooting incident on Holton Avenue earlier in the evening.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) were called to respond to a reported burglary at a residence in the 4700 Block of Holton Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement encountered an armed individual, later identified as Zar Ni Myint, exiting the property through a rear window.

Myint allegedly fired shots from a fully-automatic handgun at a FWPD officer, prompting the officers to return fire, resulting in Myint being struck.

During the exchange of gunfire, one FWPD officer sustained injuries but is reported to be in a stable condition.

Following the incident, Myint managed to flee the scene but was located later in the 1300 Block of East Fairfax Avenue where he was apprehended by authorities.

Myint, who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Upon being discharged from the hospital, Myint was taken into custody and transferred to the Allen County Jail.

Myint is currently facing multiple charges including attempted murder, burglary causing serious bodily harm, aggravated battery, resisting law enforcement while armed, and possession of a prohibited firearm.

The investigation into the shooting incident is being actively pursued by the FWPD Homicide Unit, with support from the Indiana State Police, FWPD Uniform Division, Allen County Police Department, New Haven Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
