Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A shocking car theft incident in Martin County, Florida, took a dangerous turn on Thursday when the suspect involved in the theft ended up in a violent crash, resulting in his hospitalization. Chief Deputy John Budensiek of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office provided details of the incident, which unfolded just after 3 p.m. at the Publix near the intersection of Cove Road and Federal Highway in Stuart.

The incident began when a woman was leaving the store with her car keys in hand and was suddenly attacked by the suspect. In a brazen act, the suspect snatched the keys from her hand and fled the scene. Chief Deputy Budensiek highlighted the audacity of the crime, emphasizing that it occurred in broad daylight with witnesses present.

Witnesses reported that the suspect sped south on Federal Highway before heading west on Bridge Road in Hobe Sound. Deputies immediately initiated a pursuit and managed to force the stolen vehicle off the road a few miles east of I-95. The high-speed chase culminated in a dramatic crash as the vehicle left the roadway, rotated in the air, and collided with a tree.

Despite the severe damage sustained by the SUV, the suspect was able to crawl to safety before being apprehended by law enforcement. The suspect, identified as Carlos Manuel Lozada from New York, has a lengthy criminal record and was taken to the hospital in serious condition following the crash.

Chief Deputy Budensiek commended the swift action of law enforcement in stopping the suspect and preventing further harm. He expressed relief that the victim of the car theft was physically unharmed, despite the traumatic experience. While the victim’s vehicle may have been damaged, the focus remains on ensuring her safety and well-being.

Carlos Manuel Lozada currently faces charges of strong-arm robbery, grand theft auto, and felony fleeing and eluding. Chief Deputy Budensiek hinted at the possibility of additional charges being brought against the suspect as the investigation progresses.
