ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Atlanta police have released the incident report detailing the tragic shooting that took place at the Peachtree Center mall on Tuesday. The incident occurred at 235 Peachtree Street around 2:15 p.m., in an area bustling with businesses, restaurants, and hotels.

Details of the Incident

According to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, the shooting unfolded in the food court of the Peachtree Center mall following a dispute between two individuals. The building was placed on lockdown as chaos erupted.

The suspected shooter, identified as 34-year-old Jeremy Malone from Morrow, allegedly engaged in a confrontation with a 47-year-old man in the food court and opened fire. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Atlanta police reported that Malone proceeded to target a 69-year-old woman from East Point and a 70-year-old woman from Atlanta.

Heroic Intervention

An off-duty police officer working a second job bravely responded to the gunfire. The officer instructed Malone to drop his weapon, but when Malone failed to comply, a brief exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in Malone being shot.

Victims and 911 Call

Three of the victims have been identified as Deborah Hardy, Donna Hardy, and Orlando Garcia. A 911 call from Willy’s Mexicana Grill, made during the shooting, described two women within the restaurant suffering from gunshot wounds.

Deborah Hardy, who was discharged from the hospital after the incident, recounted her experience to Atlanta News First. She shared that she and her sister, Donna, were focused on protecting their 3-year-old niece when the shooting occurred.

Malone now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of certain felonies, and third-degree cruelty to children, as indicated by Fulton County Jail records.

The incident at the Peachtree Center mall has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting discussions about safety and security measures in public spaces.
