The suspect in an amber alert from Louisiana was apprehended in Jackson, Mississippi this afternoon following a harrowing ordeal involving two young children.
Two little girls, 6-year-old Jalie Burnett and 4-year-old Erin Burnett, were reported missing in the Tangipahoa Parish area of Louisiana this morning around 8 a.m. Their disappearance prompted the issuance of an Amber Alert.
Authorities identified Daniel Callahan as the suspect in the case. Callahan was taken into custody in Jackson Thursday afternoon, bringing some closure to the frantic search for the missing children.
Tragically, the 4-year-old Erin Burnett was found deceased, while her 6-year-old sister, Jalie Burnett, was located alive and unharmed.
Details of the Tragic Events
The series of events leading to the issuance of the Amber Alert began with the discovery of a grim scene at 56044 N. Cooper Road in Loranger, Louisiana. The lifeless body of 35-year-old Callie Brunett, the mother of the missing children, was found in her home early Thursday morning.
Authorities from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed that Brunett had been missing for over 24 hours before her body was located. The sheriff’s department described the murder as brutal, with signs of violence evident throughout the crime scene.
Following the discovery of the mother’s body, it was revealed that her two children, Jalie and Erin, were absent from the residence. This prompted law enforcement to issue an Amber Alert in a desperate bid to locate the missing youngsters.
Police determined that the children were abducted prior to 8:00 a.m., leading to the official issuance of the Amber Alert at 12:28 p.m. The alert identified a white male as the suspect in a domestic violence incident that coincided with the abduction and the mother’s tragic demise.
Authorities clarified that the exact relationship between the suspect and the abducted children remains unclear. Additionally, Brunett’s 2012 Black Chrysler 200 was reported missing from the scene, along with her daughters.
