Karamjit allegedly shot his 27-year-old brother, Vipanpal Multani, nine times, and also wounded his 52-year-old mother twice as she attempted to shield her younger son from the hail of bullets.
The root of the discord between the siblings reportedly stemmed from Karamjit’s struggles following the collapse of his grocery store in Indiana, while Vipanpal’s deli business in Valley Stream, New York, continued to thrive. Both brothers had received financial support from their father, a well-known deli owner, to kickstart their respective enterprises in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, tensions escalated between Karamjit and his brother due to derogatory remarks about his failed business and pressure from their father over the lack of success. The strained relationship ultimately culminated in the tragic events that transpired on that fateful evening.
Prior to the shooting, Karamjit reportedly sent his wife and three young children back to Indiana, their wife’s home state, after a family dinner. Armed with two pistols, he entered Vipanpal’s room and unleashed a barrage of gunfire, resulting in his brother’s untimely demise. Their mother valiantly intervened but sustained injuries in the process, managing to survive the ordeal.
