A tragic incident unfolded in Hartford, Connecticut, as a construction worker lost his life in a devastating crash on Wednesday. The incident took place at the intersection of West Boulevard and South Whitney Street, where work was being carried out on a Metropolitan District Commission project.
The victim, identified as 54-year-old Jose Diaz-Nieves, was struck and fatally injured by a speeding vehicle that was recklessly navigating through the construction zone. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Tommy Nguyen, was apprehended at the scene after his car malfunctioned.
Tommy Nguyen is now facing serious charges, including manslaughter, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without insurance, and driving with a suspended license. Additionally, two passengers in Nguyen’s car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Hartford police Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert revealed that the deceased construction worker was a private contractor working for the MDC. Following the incident, Nguyen was placed under arrest and is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
