(KRON) — Disturbing video footage released by the Pinole Police Department captures the shocking moment a man jumped over a counter at a police building and physically assaulted a city employee. The harrowing incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the department in a recent news release.

The violent altercation unfolded at approximately 4:15 p.m. within the premises of the Pinole Public Safety Building on Tennant Avenue, as detailed in the official news release by the authorities. The male suspect was observed loitering around the reception area while another citizen was engaged with the front counter staff.

After a brief period, the man approached the counter and repeatedly rang a bell in a disruptive manner. Without warning, he forcefully grabbed the staff member’s arm, initiating a physical struggle. Despite her valiant efforts, the victim found herself trapped in the assailant’s grasp, unable to break free.

Eventually managing to extricate herself from the attacker’s hold, the victim sought refuge in the main hallway of the police building. Promptly responding to the distress call, officers swiftly intervened and apprehended the suspect.

The perpetrator, identified as 65-year-old Chester Victor from unincorporated San Pablo, was taken into custody at the scene. He now faces a slew of charges including burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment, battery, assault, and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from Solano County. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the motive behind the violent assault.
