Witnesses, including parents of children who were present at the scene, shared their accounts of the harrowing event with WSMV4. Casandra Compton, a concerned mother, recounted how she learned about the shooting through a Facebook post while her children were playing at the community center within the park.
The Facebook post indicated that multiple gunshots had been fired at the playground where Compton’s children were typically playing. Alarmed by the news, Compton immediately contacted the community center, only to find out that they were on lockdown following the incident.
In response to the shooting, Metro Nashville Police swiftly shut down the park, community center, and surrounding streets on North DuPont Avenue. According to police reports, a group of teenagers had gathered at the park to confront another group, resulting in a heated argument that escalated into gunfire, fatally striking the victim identified as Justin Robinson.
The chaotic scene unfolded as witnesses observed the injured boy lying on the ground. A passerby rushed to his aid, transporting him and a friend to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, the 16-year-old succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Police investigations revealed that one of the guns involved in the shooting was retrieved from the teens at the hospital, while the other group of assailants managed to flee the scene with the second weapon. The incident left residents like Compton reeling from the senseless violence that has gripped their neighbourhood.

This recent shooting at Madison Park is the second fatal incident involving teenagers engaging in violence at Nashville parks. Just two weeks prior, a 13-year-old boy was killed and his 16-year-old sister injured in a shooting at Red Caboose Park in Bellevue, highlighting the pressing need for community action to curb youth violence.
