A 33-year-old man from Randolph has been taken into custody in connection with a stabbing incident in Brockton that resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man and injuries to a 61-year-old man, according to prosecutors.
Police in Brockton responded to a report of a double stabbing at 23 Melrose Ave. on Monday evening, prompting them to alert State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office about the incident at approximately 7:40 p.m.
Following the incident, the District Attorney’s office issued a statement confirming that “the two male victims were transported to area hospitals.” Sadly, one of the victims, identified as 59-year-old William Hewlett, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital due to his injuries. The other victim, a 61-year-old man, was treated and discharged from South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Kevin Digregorio, 33, of Randolph. Vermont State Police and U.S. Marshals located Digregorio on Wednesday morning sleeping inside a vehicle along a roadway in Lunenberg, Vermont. He has been arrested and will face charges of murder and other offenses in Brockton District Court once the extradition process in Vermont is completed.
The District Attorney’s office stated that the investigation is still ongoing, but initial findings suggest that the incident was not a random act of violence.
