Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded near Gangadham Chowk in Pune on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 59-year-old woman and leaving her 33-year-old daughter-in-law critically injured. The two women were riding a bike when they were struck by a dumper truck. The driver of the dumper truck has been apprehended by the police.
The deceased has been identified as Damayanti Bhupendra Solanki, a resident of Kondhwa. Her daughter-in-law, Priyanka Rahul Solanki, who was operating the bike, sustained severe injuries in the collision and is currently undergoing treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police R Raja provided insight into the incident, stating, “Probe suggests the dumper truck hit the bike from behind. We have arrested the driver of the dumper.” The Market Yard police station officer disclosed that Damayanti’s injuries were fatal, resulting in her immediate demise at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the dumper truck, identified as Ashok Chhotelal Mahato (37) from Bavdhan, was subjected to physical assault by locals before being handed over to the authorities. It was revealed that the dumper truck was transporting building construction material at the time of the collision.
In response to the tragedy, Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni took to social media to express her concerns about heavy vehicles on the roads. She emphasized the importance of enforcing the ban on heavy vehicle traffic in the city to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Contrary to the claims made by MP Kulkarni, officials from the traffic control branch clarified that there was no existing ban on heavy vehicles using the specific road where the accident occurred.
